(1827-1896) Union Major General who fought throughout the war at the head of the Iron Brigade, severely wounded at Gettysburg, and after the war led the relief column to bury the dead at the Little Big Horn. 

Scarce, war-date (Gettysburg campaign) signed endorsement as brigadier general commanding the 2nd Division,
3 1/2" x 3", June 9, 1863 forwarding a letter.  Text on verso refers to a soldier who had shown gallantry in combat.
Light toning else very good.
