Type Letter Signed (TLS)  dated 6/8/1961 on "DDE" stationery informing Princeton University Press Edition Herbert Bailey Jr. that he will not be able to lecture at Princeton next year.

In full:

Dear Mr. Bailey:

Thank you for your letter of the sixth.  Before it was received, I had already replied to Dr. Goheen, telling him of my inability to give the Edge Lectures at Princeton during the next academic year.

One of the reasons that entered into my declination was the realization of the importance of the Edge Lecture series and the time, consequently, that would be involved in the preparation of any material I would consider adequate.  As you may know, I am at work upon a writing project of my own that is taking all my available time. and, at that, is considerably behind schedule.

Nonetheless, I appreciate your suggestion that the Princeton University Press would have been interested in publishing the Lectures.

With best wishes,

Sincerely,

Dwight D, Eisenhower
