(1820-1891) Union major general declared by the press to be "insane", he lead his army in their March to the Sea, taking Atlanta, Savannah and Columbia along the way.  A.L.S. "W. T. Sherman General" 1 page New York, Aug. 20, 1888, to a Life Insurance company regarding the purchase of house in New York City:"...Enclosed please find a check for $401.48 due Feb. 20/23 on the Farley note of $17,500 for which I am now responsible having purchased of him the house no. 75 West 71 Street...".

Boldly written and signed.  Attractively vintage framed in blue mat with a portrait engraving of Sherman in uniform.  Very good condition
