Superb Autograph Quotation signed from the Confederate general (1821–1904) who distinguished himself at Bull Run, Fredericksburg, Gettysburg and Chickamauga. Ink signature, “Never despise your enemy. James Longstreet, Seattle Washington, Sept 2, 1898,” on an off-white 6.75 x 4 album page. In fine condition, with a few small spots of ink pooling to date, and a rough left edge.

This is an very important quote because it reflects an approach that alienated his follow southerners after the war. Many Southerners looked upon the close relationships that Longstreet had with former enemies such as U.S. Grant with great distain and was one of the reasons he was made him a prime target when it came to assigning blame for the loss of the Confederacy. A very desirable item !!
