Scarce war-date signature with rank "Winfield S. Hancock Major Genl. Vols."   

Clean except for a small glue stain at the bottom far from the signature.

(1824-1886) Union Major General - Pennsylvania.  An 1844 graduate of West Point, Hancock fought in the Mexican War and Kansas Seminole War.  At the outbreak of the Civil War, he was appointed Brigadier Genl of Volunteers and served from the Peninsular and Maryland campaigns through Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Virginia battles in the spring of 1864.  After the war, he involved himself in the Democratic Party, running for the Presidency against Garfield.
